Interim Sessions
Following the completion of the general legislative Session begins the off-season, or "Interim" Session. Once a month we meet in committees comprised of both House and Senate members and begin to craft and discuss proposed legislation for the 2020 general session. Our last Interim Session was on September 18.

Thanks to the Utah Opera for coming to Hillsdale Elementary earlier this month! Great program. And thanks to the school for the invite!

Items Discussed During the September Interim Session

- Officials will take a break on state utilization of facial recognition technology as officials conceded Wednesday that Utah’s system is out of date and prone to errors. [Trib] [DNews] [Fox13] [ABC4] [KUTV]
- Studied the real-world applications, potential benefits, value, and barriers to blockchain technology, including the potential benefits and value to state government administration and affairs.
- Discussed draft legislation, “School Absenteeism and Truancy Amendments."
- Heard a presentation from a workgroup studying vaping and the use of e-cigarettes by minors.
- Received a presentation from a Utah Valley University professor and discussed the advantages and disadvantages of elected versus appointed county officials.
- Received an overview of My529’s creation and purpose, its current status, tax advantages, and company best practices.
- Received an overview of the Department of Human Resource Management’s process for performing a market analysis of total compensation, including benefits, for state employees.
