Interim Sessions

Following the completion of the general legislative Session begins the off-season, or "Interim" Session.  Once a month we meet in committees comprised of both House and Senate members and begin to craft and discuss proposed legislation for the 2020 general session.  This year, our first Interim Session was on June 19.

Items Discussed During the June Interim Session

  • The Government Operations Interim Committee discussed the possibility of taking more seriously the blank or incomplete disclosure forms that are filed by some city candidates. [Trib]
  • Delta Air Lines expects continued growth for its hub operations in Salt Lake City, including adding nonstops to Asia when the new airport there is completed. [Trib]
  • Received a presentation from the State Board of Education and a juvenile court administrator regarding issues with chronic absenteeism and truancy among Utah students and alternatives to address and decrease chronic absenteeism and truancy in Utah schools.
  • Discussed a concept proposal regarding the process to fill a congressional vacancy.
  • Received a report from a social worker on the misapplication of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s 2016opioid prescribing guideline, including recommendations for amendments to the Utah Code.

  • Receiving Granite School District's "Friend of Education" Award
Thanks so much to Granite School District for recognizing me as a "Friend of Education" at their Board Meeting this month. It has been such an honor to work together with Granite School District to ensure our kids have a quality education.

  • Ceremonial Bill Signing with Governor Herbert
Earlier this month, the Governor acknowledged the good legislation that is HB57 (requiring warrants for digital information) and HB129 (allowing campaign contributions to be used for childcare expenses while campaigning). Thanks to my legislative colleagues Sen. Deidre Henderson R-Spanish Fork and Rep. Stephanie Pitcher D-Salt Lake City, for their assistance on these two great bills.
